She was good until 2018 decided to say “Hey BITCHES! Why don’t we make Ellie Goulding BAD?” I was shocked that Ellie had made the song Close To Me. That shit is hard to listen to. Her old stuff like Love me Like You do and Fire is hella amazing.
I agree, I didn’t like that song as all. Devoid of feeling and felt like pandering to the lowest common denominator. However I am a bit more forgiving about that sort of thing when it comes to pop stars. Business pressure is to put out something that will sell. Lord knows I don’t love every single song Kylie Minogue has ever put out over her 30+ year career. But her best material is fire and I would say the same for Goulding.
One of a kind voice, and a great ear for choosing good producers. “Delirium” was such an amazing album from beginning to end. Only complaint, and it’s not a very good one since it’s hardly her fault, is that some of her stuff got overplayed.
