Yes, I understand about all that but I took the meme as using genetic engineering to give babies the appearance a parent would want, or worse yet parents getting plastic surgery for babies.

Either way, I say yes, it is not ethical.

I suppose it a matter of where the ethnics come from.
If you are a believer in a supernatural creator then you’ll probably think this practice is wrong.
However I’m inclined to think that most gene sequencing in this practice is aimed at hereditary disease prevention rather than cosmetic image choice.
Surely we shouldn’t throw out treating disease because it isn’t ‘gods will’.

If prospective parents are using this as a way of making a child like it’s a ‘alive’ fashion accessory they need to take a long hard introspective of themselves and ask why their love isn’t good enough for a child they could produce naturally.

LOVE ALL THE CHILDREN 👍 that’s really where the ethnics of this should be.

...some people might want a particular trait, you know. Some traits can be universally hated, even if it is just in one specific area. Maybe it would be better to have a specific trait, even if some poeple think certain traits are good in other places, do the other places matter? No, what matters is the place you are in.
