I don't think the world is going to end in 10 years. But I would agree with the scientists who say that we have a 10-20 year window in which to act to mitigate the worst of it. I welcome technological progress, but so far the current pace of incremental technological improvements has not been enough. Despite clean technologies, the rate of total global carbon emissions is *still rising* year after year, due mainly to the economic growth of third-world countries.
As much as I'd like to hope that we're simply going to invent our way out of this mess, we may not be able to. That means any combination of the following: an economy-wide carbon tax, massive government-backed investment (such as what's been proposed with the Green New Deal), and tough sacrifices on the part of businesses and consumers.
