I'll give you an example. Yesterday, my mother-in-law came to town, and my wife and I spent all day with her. We did a 15k run in the morning, then grabbed brunch. My wife had to leave for a bit to meet up with a friend, so I took my mother-in-law on a walk through our neighborhood and showed her a lot of our favorite local hangout spots. My wife came back home and she and my mother-in-law went shopping for Xmas gifts. When they got back we went out to dinner and chatted some more. Finally, around 9 p.m. we had tickets to take a walking tour through our local park which was bedecked with hundreds of holiday light displays. We walked through the whole park twice, and on the second time around we caught a lot of light displays that we missed the first time. It was magical.
All of this may seem mundane and it wasn't a day that required any great sacrifice on my part. But it was awesome, and definitely brought our whole family closer together.
I'm so thankful to my mother-in-law for bringing my wife into the world and raising her to be the woman she is.
So I guess to me, cherishing the women in my life boils down to the little things: Love, respect, making time for each other.
