Probably, but he has many songs that are extremely complex and not the simple repetitive crap a lot of pop rock writers fall into.

Now he does have some songs I don’t care for, but I do enjoy many of them. Sorta like a young Phil Collins use to write complex lyrics before cashing in.

i would add kris kristofferson he sacrificed carreer and family to write music.. and anoter should i say dolly parton...hahaha
