A friend of mine ran a liqueur in a small hill town when i was in school. We often spent nights there drinking and telling stories when this old guy dressed like a farmer came in already drunk looking for more booze.

Because he was drunk my friend wouldn't sell to him and he proceeded to get angry and tell us how famous he was. We laughed it off because he claimed to have sinner with Stalin and got Mao to allow his art collection in to China. We laughed harder.

The next day I found out we were talking with Armand Hammer. The richest man in the world at the time. He was staying at a friend's place in the hill town because of the lack of light pollution for his star gazing. (He was an avid astronomer too) before going to a dinner to honor him for something.

Not as interesting was the time I was in NYC at the Rockefeller building and the elevator I was waiting for opened and John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd got off. We never said a word and there was no eye contact.

U met Belushi? he was my fav comedian ever!

I don't understand the need for autographs. The celebs I have passed by or went to go see (Gordie Howe and his sons playing for the Whalers or when I met Richard Petty when I was 11) they were not friends, we did not share a conversation, there was no there there except being in the same area at the same time. (Penn Jillette at the supermarket) NOw I actually spoke with Armand Hammer for about an hour, that sticks with you.

My brother in law in Florida sometimes talks with Sandy Koufax when he comes into his store. And my father....he knows more famous people than you would believe, but then again he use to be a newspaper publisher and often rubbed elbows with the rich and powerful at many functions. (My earliest memories was him coming back from the Paris Peace Talks during the Vietnam war. His paper sent him because he speaks fluent French)

I tell people I know you know! (I took French. Hated it.)

My Dad interviewed him a long time ago (He use to live locally) and said he was pleasant, but distant. My wife had waited on his wife a couple of times when she was young.

I met Rip Taylor when I was a kid and my parents were volunteering for Make a Wish when we lived in Las Vegas. He was a normal guy, participating in normal conversation - but occasionally he would "Rip Taylor" out and throw confetti, burst into laughter, and then settle back into whatever conversation was going on. It was never dull.

He died just last month, and that made me sad. He wasn't super famous, but I think it counts.

I never met him, and he's not dead (yet) so I don't necessarily think this counts but a friend of mine is cousins with Dylan Roof. She got absolutely bombarded by media and paparazzi after the shooting, to the point where she couldn't even stay at home. She came near to having a breakdown over all of it, I felt really bad for her.

my grandfather met Mussolini 4 reel. He was a college student and was in Italy for something b4 ww2. He had some some sort of magazine and Invite and when he came back and found out what he was all about he told my grandmother to burn everything about the guy.
