that's because you are, gender is something that people can define as allowing them to feel more comfortable with their identity.
for example I'm a demi girl, this means I'm a girl that doesn't feel really feminine but also knows they don't feel masculine.
not believing in genders is like not believing in categories on jeopardy or something.
and it's considered disrespectful among the LGBTQ+ community

and please note I'm not saying you need to define as more then a boy or a girl but more so pointing out how you may offend somebody.
