According to the internet, the word 'orange' originated from old French name "Pomme d'Orenge", which itself was derived the Arabic word for the fruit, "Naranj".

Trump Orange | WHY AREN'T BOTH NAMED "TRUMP" | image tagged in trump orange | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Lol, brace yourself the trump memes are coming :)

I'd say the color was named after the fruit, at least for the English language. Wikipedia agrees with me too, but we all know how 100% reliable their sources are.

But I chickened out seeing as it might be seen as too political for the hallowed Think tank, lol. Yea I trust wiki as much as I trust my 4 year old who thinks he's the expert on everything; )

I know in Spanish the color and fruit share the same name. Where's Mario he could tell us what it is in his 12 other languages he's learning on Duolingo. ;)

The color after the fruit:
Lime green
Banana yellow
Orange

If I remember correctly, the color was named after the fruit. Before that, it was called red-yellow or something like that. And it makes sense since, as far as I know, orange does not grow naturally (as in without the use of any agricultural techniques or tools) in any of the Germanic-speaking lands.
