This is super fun. So, the thing about the CAGR is that it's an ANNUAL calculation. It doesn't make sense to calculate fractional years, and it REALLY doesn't make sense to compare a long sample with a short sample - unless you're TRYING to muddy the waters. Using the DIA data -
If we look at the past 2 full years of Trump (Jan 2017 to Jan 2019), the CAGR is 9.66%
The last 2 full years of Obama (Jan 2015 to Jan 2017), the CAGR is 7.56%
I'm comparing the last 2 years against the first 2 years so the economic environments will be the same. One leads directly into the other. This shows changes made by Trump resulted in a 2.1% increase in annual growth.
As I said earlier, any decent statistician can manipulate the numbers to say anything they want. Just for kicks, let's look at the first year DIA growth for each President:
Trump year 1 growth DIA: 25.7%
Obama year 1 growth DIA: 25.56%
As a software developer, I tend to stay as far away from statistical results as possible, preferring hard facts over bullshit people try to sell as "fact".
