It doesn’t solve the problem though.
Despite those obstacles, it’s best to keep that responsibility on our shoulders. We must stay involved in our communities, staying informed on our representatives, their stances, and their actions. We have an obligation as citizens to make sure our local governments does right by us and that we all keep congress in check.
Make sure every year your voter registration is up to date. Make sure your IDs are renewed before fall when it’s time to vote.
And vote!
And even after that, keep voicing your concerns, even if the person you wanted for that position got it. Even if you’re the minority and people talk shit about you or your stance. Because you matter too. Maybe you’ll change their minds. Maybe they’ll change yours. We can do it. Together.
Term limits is just more bureaucratic red tape that harms good representatives than it punishes those with no genuine interest in their constituents and communities. My opinion, of course. I’m sure the amount of good politicians, if you’ll forgive the oxymoron, are few and far between. But, call me an optimist, I think there are still some decent representatives out there. And if you’re so cynical to not trust the guys coming in versus the guys you think are too comfortable, then you need to rethink whose the one whose really hurting voter turn out. Is it the stale same-ole politicians or the ones with new ideas that want to change the system?
Not all change is good? Of course. But you get to decide that. Not some list of rules and regulations meant to make it easier on you and even worse, on them.
A time limit doesn't stop a crook.
It just means they gotta get in and get out faster.
And that’s not better than the alternative.
