It's true, the system is broken. And there is a lot of focus on keeping birth families together, which I agree with to an extent. But we saw the writing on the wall in our situation, as did our case worker, as did the hospital staff...and no one could do anything about it or so they said. The state laws are in place for good reason, but there is not enough consideration of circumstances when it comes to cases like this. And there's been a few too many stupid lawsuits out there that ruined the whole process. The boy is now apart from ALL his birth family, whereas he could have at least grown up knowing his blood sister. I think that would have been wonderful.
