I don't think social media should be the litmus test for a person's integrity 10-20 years after they say something stupid. And those who go and search out for stupid things people said long ago in order to destroy their reputation have nothing better to do with their lives.

I would agree. I also think context is everything. You might post something in jest and all it takes Is one over sensitive SJW to interpret it the wrong way. Sarcasm is something that can be hard to communicate online especially to people who don't know you IRL.

Mad Men Marketing | MARKETING 101 | image tagged in mad men marketing | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
What you’re essentially doing with social media like Twitter or Facebook is marketing yourself to the world and most times you are going to portray yourself in the best light.. however sometimes social and societal norms are broken.
THE INTERNET NEVER FORGETS, PEOPLE. Be carful.
But for these single or sometimes multiple snippets to be used in the future to be a indicator of a persons character in the now is just silly.
Just think back about yourself.
Where the attitudes you had in school the same as they where in college or was the attitude you had in college the same as when you fully entered the work force or your attitudes as / if you became a parent.
If someone said something bad in their past but that doesn’t marry up with the actions of that person now GO WITH THE GOOD / NORMAL ACTIONS OF NOW.
People change.
(phew)

Peace.

All speech on social media should be protected by the First Amendment. Censorship of any kind is for those who are too simple and weak to fight opposing beliefs using reason. It’s normally liars who hide the truth, not truthers who hide the lie.

That's a very good point. But freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. While you're allowed to say (and post online) what you wish, there are sometimes consequences.

As for censorship (on Facebook, Twitter, etc.), they have every right to do so. You can post whatever you wish, but since these are private companies, not the government, they can do whatever they wish.

Yes, fair enough. But anyone who wants to punish others simply for what they say is a snowflake. About the social media platforms being private companies, well, many of them are actually controlled by the government.

Fair enough, but I don't know if punish is the right word.

If someone says something inflammatory, their words can always be used against them. You have the freedom of speech, yes, but others have the freedom to choose what they think about you based on that speech.

Responsibility falls on an individual for whatever they say (and choose to broadcast online). Once it is published, it is for anyone to interpret that as they wish.
