The market sets standards for honesty. People tend to not watch news they think is dishonest. If you take a story and read the facts as presented by your local paper, then the ones presented by national publications like USAToday or The Wall Street Journal, they will the same. Opinion as to what the facts mean may vary. But the facts don't. The same goes for CNN, Fox News. MSNBC and your trusted local news. The facts they present concerning a story don't vary. Again, opinions vary. But, competition and other market forces make news organizations mostly honest.
