Sometimes it is a tough call. But the line between unable to work and UNWilling shows pretty clearly in a person's life. I'm all for supporting the unable but I don't have a nickle for the unwilling.

we a mixed economy.
and as a society we can decide where and how those monies should be spent.
we like our roads,because we like our cars.

but there has been a shift for some municipalities,especially after the 2007 crash,that have been selling long stretches of freeways to private companies for profit.there is your capitalism.

Yes, there are some things that cannot (or SHOULD not) be run on a profit basis: National defense, police and fire services seem like obvious ones.
