Highly unlikely it would ever be a state. At best it'd be a territory like Guam or American Samoa. Assuming we ever gained possession of it to begin with.

well - there's global warming - this can't be denied.
you can debate the causes much as you want - Greenland glaciers don't care if it's manmade or a geo-cycle - they are melting.
half a billion people world wide living in coast regions may have to be resettled within the next 100 years as ocean levels rise - maybe as early as 2050.

So definitely you want to cultivate and colonialize Arctic regions if changing climate allows it.
Name me any nation that would be more capable to develop Greenland than the USA.
maybe Russia - they did a great job in Siberia. Probably not China - they'd only go there to exploit the natural recources and install military bases. Definitely not Danmark. They're simlply to small and lack means and recources.

And China buying Greenland would be a bit arbitrary, since Greenland is far away from there. What I’ve always wondered is why Iceland isn’t trying to buy Greenland, even though Iceland would have the same problem that you mentioned for Denmark — but at least Iceland is closer, and I believe slightly larger.
