Thanks to technology we will all be totally illiterate soon enough. First we had spell check. You could see what was misspelled and correct it. Then they introduced the ability to click on the error and get a choice of words with which to correct it. Then we came into having auto correct. You need not know not only that you made an error, but you may also avoid knowing how to correct said error. We also have speech to text. Preventing people from ever needing to know how to spell any words at all. Not to mention text to speech, preventing the need for reading as well.

A lot of people think I am full of it. But this is how it is starting. Give it time. Knowing how to read, write and spell will be for the "have nots" and illiteracy for the "haves". Mark my words.

well I'm marking them, and it is getting worse, and rich folk already don't worry about grades, so your prophecy is already coming true ( :

My kids will not be among the illiterate if I can help it. It really blows my mind how bad it is getting.

We keep a mental list of all the brainless things she says and does so we can tease her about them

agreed. regardless of the mechanism, it is a misspelling and the standard penalties must apply out of fairness to all. bailiff, whack his peepee ( :

It's okay. In my original comment I messed up pretty good. I did not discover the mistakes until I posted, so I had to delete and correct it.

i hesitate to criticize Flat Earthers for a few reasons. one, they literally can't help how their brains work. if they didn't believe in flat Earth, they'd believe something else equally ludicrous. it's how they are. two, it's nice that they're willing to reject a majority opinion. would be Einsteinian if they were right. three, i see high-level research professors make comparably outrageous claims on a regular basis, and that's not new. quite a long documented history to it. Karen Douglas at U. Kent says conspiracy theorists enjoy the power of 'explaining' some big thing, and that thrill of power seems to me to drive those nutty professors, too. so it's hard to conclude that Flat Earthers without also saying we're all that way. maybe we are ( :

I won't ever call any of them stupid or anything along those lines. I think they really have a misunderstanding of things and it's not their fault.
Part of the problem, I think, is that things are so easy that anybody can post something on the internet and claim to be an authority on it. Some people find these things and don't know any better that they are unable to understand the difference or question it.
I've seen a lot of flat earth "proof" and a lot of them start with, "I was watching youtube one night..."
Many more are the same handful of things repeated over and over like the whole "water seeks its level", spinning a wet ball, and horizon things. It just shows, to me, a lack of understanding or the fact that they just can't fathom how big everything is and how small we are in comparison.
There are others who can't imagine not having some sort of deity watching over them who created this just for us. And that's ok too.
For me, I take more comfort in the fact that us here on this planet could just be a long line of cosmic luck. That makes life more precious to me when I think of it in that perspective. I want to enjoy every moment as if I am here as just some sort of huge accident.
Then again...here I am wasting that time on the internet 😆

agreed. a long line of cosmic luck for us. but also destiny, i believe, based in physical laws applied over a long time. i wish someone had good enough vision to see the distant future ( :

I can see how destiny could also play a role.
Did you hear that researchers at the University of Washington were able to conduct an experiment that sort of recreates how the first cells could have started being formed on Earth

thanks! i'm getting more interested in that question as my knowledge of molecular physics gets better. i generally don't credit the ideas of most workers in that area, but this report sounds substantial.

It's really interesting what they discovered and pretty amazing how they did it.
I'm definitely not smart enough to be able to come up with something like that

pish and tush! remember that they had years of education and training beyond college. having ideas for experiments that touch on basic questions is definitely a process, and the longer you try, the better you get. i don't know how old you are, but id you'd asked me at age twenty whether i could do the things i do now, i was arrogant enough then to say 'maybe', although i had no idea how i'd get there

I had a teacher in college who said what made Einstein so significant wasn't because of how smart he was. It was because he asked the questions that nobody else thought to ask
[deleted]

and Einstein said that he thought his particular strength was that he was willing to stick with a problem longer than most people. and he was wicked smart. and he was in the habit of imagining established dogma to be flawed while his own thinking had little restraint on what it might imagine. my hero! <3 <3 <3
