True, though I'd argue that just recognizing that a genuine effort was/is being made humanizes the other side and allows at least some civil argument to be made.

At the end of the day, yeah, you'd still be serving me shit soufflé (and I'm not gonna eat it), but I'd be more inclined to react rationally knowing that you're not genuinely trying to be an asshole or part of some conspiracy.
