I think those that chose Trump were not as stupid as the Dumbocrat side wish their followers to believe. His background was thoroughly vetted as to any real wrong doing he may have done. They knew how dirty the opposition would play.
Even the non release of his tax returns will turn out to be egg on the faces of those that try push it. Especially when they and there immediate family members are asked to provide the same.
