I'm mainly posting this because I had a really butt hole today at work

Here is my story. Contains one swear word.
I was ringing up a nice lady who had a large order. We started talking and such. Then the man beh6her starts complaining to the lady behind him theb they both start it was directed at me. When the man came up I poilety said "hi sir do have your card" then he replied in a ride tone " he replied hurry up so I can get the hell away from you" I didn't catch on at first. I said something I forget I may have said sorry or if I could help him in some way. " he said stop taking your time and talking and you see you have a line" I said I'm sorry sir. He then says the store needs more Express lanes ( we dont have any. There are only 12 registers plus 4 self check outside. Out of the 12 registers only a few are open and there are a lot of big orders) I just said yeah it are store has always been that way. Nothing would appease him. Of course the whole time he was complaining to the lady behind him about how people love melted ice cream and other rude things.
Maybe I was talk to much I want to be friendly also I try not to fast as not to scan wrong items or some money related thing. It's easy to make mistakes at a register.
Well if you have real this thank you. Please give me insight if you have any.
I told the assistant manager and he told me someone got mad at him for going to fast.

I'm sorry for the unpleasant experience you've had with him. I think you've done a good job in keeping your cool, remaining professional throughout that ordeal. It was also great that you've apologized for the inconvenience he felt, and asked if you could help him in order to calm him.

It didn't work, and he kept on being the hole that he is, but you did what you were trained to do. And though you did not receive any tangiable form of justice, your kindness and patience made him look bad before everyone.

Yeah the customer after the lady who was po'd was very friendly and even said what are you going to do. In a nice way
