Because what is viewed as "normal" is an ever changing thing. I do feel very much like an alien though. I do not feel that I fit in or that I relate to people in general.

It depends... Normal is more in the eyes of the beholder. Everyone has their own idea of what normal should look like, and act like. Just like how everyone has different taste buds.... IDK that's a different comparison....but um yeah to me, I'm different than most, to my family I'm different to most, to the people I've never met before, I'll appear normal. Only once you get to know me do I appear anything different. So I guess I'm normal, and not normal.... Make sense? IDK I'm just here existing with all my depressing thoughts.. .

I shall be honest, I didn't make up this quote myself. It's a translation from Dutch, and it was on a poster hanging in several offices of mental health care offices. I am an Aspie myself, and thanks to that I've seen the psychiatrist office pretty often. And most people in similar situations such as myself HATE the word "normal". Some of us consider being "normal" is a very terrible disease.

Indeed there is no way to define "normal", but what the quote also says is that everybody is crazy in their own way. Aside from phenomenons requiring professional help, we all have a crazy property that most people do not deem "normal". The phrase was therefore meant to reflect upon yourself before you brand other people crazy.

And indeed, what is normal depends on who you ask. I am however not afraid to wear a T-shirt with the print "100% gestoord" ("gestoord" is a Dutch word and means "crazy" or "mentally disturbed" or "mad" or... well you got the picture). When people make a not of me when I wear that shirt, I always say "I won't go for 99%".

Lol that's really great. "I won't go for 99%" is probably my favorite quote of the year. And I agree normality is a horrible thing.... It's the word that leads to most problems. If one isnt labeled as "normal" they'll be bothered for it, it's want leads to things like not appreciating people for who they are, and the qualities that make them unique......

I tell ya, I'm very unique... It's time I get appreciated for that :P
Sometimes when people complain about people being crazy, I also say "There is improvement. Now people only complain about it. Centuries ago, they'd burn you alive for being different." I've killed a lot of whini.... I mean "discussions" with that one. :)

And it amuses me you like my "99%" quote. It's joke I repeated many times, but it works every time XD

Yeah you should be appreciated for that, it's often the unique ones that make the biggest difference, I mean look at Einstein. People basically thought he was stupid, and crazy for the longest time, an snow he's an important scientist and historical figure. And glad I could partially amuse you, that's a first for me....lol [I say as my phone says that sentence for me]
