Email is really the only authority on access to an account, unless there is a password setup as well. We have no other way of verifying the account is owned by a particular person, because we have no personal information like driver license number or phone number.

Ultimately you'd never want to make an Imgflip account (or honestly any other website account) with a work email or something else ephemeral, unless the activity you perform on Imgflip is guaranteed to only ever be related to that particular job/work, meaning you'd be okay with leaving the account to that employer to do with as they choose.

acuity, could you please enlighten me on the new option to change our usernames? Once you make the first change it says that we must wait 30 days to change it again. How many times will a user be able to change it? Is there a limit? We were discussing it out here amongst ourselves and are curious about how it works. Thanks!

Currently no limit on number of changes. It will just display your previous username for the full 30 days so people can't switch their username just to troll or hide or spam.

I can think of a couple users who apparently couldn't get back into their accounts because of email addresses that no longer worked and they forgot their password or some other similar snafu.

I don't really have any ideas for you, but for other users that might come by here down the road who forgot their password, there is a password reset link (the email used to set up the account is needed)
