It depends on the use of the word.

Damnation is sentencing to punishment, specifically used to denote eternal punishment in Hell by religious groups. If you damn somebody, you are condemning them to some form of punishment. "D--- you" is technically a harsher intent than "F--- you," and I'm pretty sure we can agree the F-bomb is profanity.
