You're just paranoid of your government. Everyone uses the argument of protecting themselves and their family. You wanna protect yourself from the government, VOTE! Or better yet, get involved in politics, start local think national, I believe in you, you can do it!

Agreed that the 2A isn't about self defense, but being able to defend yourself when the govt that wants to take away your firearms can't or won't defend you, is a benefit that comes from it.

And to idiots like Sewmyeyesshut, it shouldn't have to be stated that when defending yourself, the nationality and/or color of the person on either end of the firearm is of absolutely no concern.

And, I know you didn't ask, and it's just my $0.02, but I don't get into it (any more) with Sewmyeyesshut, because that person is just plain ignorant.

I definitely agree with you about its original purpose. The founders were certainly not idiots. And now that I think a little more about it, you're smart to focus on that when debating the people here on the flip who would do away with it if they could. As I'm sure we can both agree, debates here can spin waaaay out of control once people go off point even a little bit.

While I 100% agree that the 2nd A is about protecting yourself from the government, it is also very much about protecting your family from anyone else as well. Defenseless is defenseless, regardless of who is attacking you, and the 2nd A gives you the right to have the tools of defense.
