I was wondering "Why did they name it after a candy?!"

Actually two different spellings. CarAmel is the candy Carmel is a mountain in northern Israel where according to 1 Kings 18:16-45 the prophet Elijah and the God of Israel defeated the prophets of the false god Baal. It is believed among Catholics that the Blessed Mother appeared to St. Simon Stock and entrusted to him the Rosary and Scapular.

Understood; thank you Kate for enlightening me with its history. :) Since the above event is the Feast of our Lady, is it really a feast, or is it a special Mass?

Feel free to ask any time! A feast means that there are special prayers at Mass like the Gloria, similar to a Sunday. But can be any day of the week. Some of us take the feast literally and celebrate with food too :)

Thank you, Kate; I appreciate that. :)

Not gonna even answer that stupid question
2 ups, 5y
Lol; no, of course not. :) the answer was already given, and... I suppose I should have done better at explaining.

I've confused the two, years ago, when I've first read it. The difference in rendering was but a letter, and the pronounciation was only a little different.

Years since, the name never ceases to amuse me; so when I saw this post, I commented on it a bit too quickly.

Do you believe in the rapture?

Well yes we can forgive. But could I forgive your sins. No why because I am fallible even the apostles are by their own accounts. Only the Lord Jesus can forgive our sins because he cannot sin. Also we broke his law so we must ask him.

Me yes. Post tribulation to be exact. I actually had catholic neighbors very nice people. Most Catholics I've met are very nice. Except for the priest that have sex with children.

Well of course, no one likes evil priests although they are few considering the total number of priests in the world and they're not acting Catholic or Christian but doing the Devils work.

I agree. I do ask you this. If salvation is free gift from our Lord and Savior then why work for it. Just asking I would like to have a intellectual conversation about this.
I believe in faith based salvation.

Has it ever occurred to people that feeding the hungry clothing the naked etc are ways of showing love to thy neighbor as Jesus instructed. "And they will ask Lord when did we see you hungry and give you food? And he will say when you did these things to the least of my brothers you did them to me" Faith is important for without it we cannot believe in God or His grace but works are the fruit of acting on his grace. Nothing about earning salvation. Maybe some people think it is but there is nothing we can do to earn salvation.

Yes yes I agree. Our works cannot merit our salvation. Yes I agree that as a Christian we should do good works James says so. But then there is this in the bible it is withe the parable of the sheep and the goats.
There will be those that say
Lord lord did we not feed you ect ect
And he will say to them I never knew you.
So we do have to see our intentions. Beaches I myself have done good for the wrong reasons.
I believe we do good works so that we can not only bear good fruit but that we my honor God

Well I'm more asking what you believe in. Do you believe in the worship of Mary? Or that the saints have the ability to forgive.
2 ups, 5y
No we don't worship Mary. This was addressed elsewhere on this stream, and of course the saints can forgive, you can forgive and so can I. Unless I'm not understanding what you mean by forgiveness.

I have always thought works based salvation was apart if the catholic church.
2 ups, 5y
Can you show me quotes and sources that say we believe in works based salvation? I'd be better able to respond.

That's quite all right; would you say that your congregation is tradional or contemporary in worship?

Um I do it by what the bible says. So does that and your question

Lol! Well, naturally; every congregation would make that claim.

Traditionalists like myself would say that the Hebrews and the New Testament Church sings in Hymns while those favoring Contemporary music would likely quote Psalms 33:3.

The truth is that both doxologies have merit so long as it does not violate scripture and cross into worldly values, doctrines, and sentimentalities (1 John 2:15).

Boy that's is a great question.
To me this is the gospel: God has set a law based on himself and his attributes. He giving us free will to love him based on our own. But we with that free will instead of loving and praising him we spat in His face and broke His law. We have no ability to redeem ourselves because the bail is to high. But God being the one we owe paid that debt with His death and resurrection. And those that believe in Him shall be free from death.
I hope you are not upset with my non-calvinistic views this is how I gather from the bible
1 up, 5y
Lol! No, I'm not at all upset by your views. The Gospel message is the most fundamental aspect of our faith. This is what's called "Fundamental Theology". As Protestants, what saves is what's within that theology which includes the doctrine of the Trinity, and the 4 Soli (Sola in a plural form).

However, what does not save are all the rest. This is what's called, "Periphrial Theology" or, Secondary Theology. And that, includes Calvinism vs. Arminianism, Adult vs. Pedo-Baptism, any sort of doxology, ecclesiology, hermaneutics, Homiletics, etc.

This, is the historical belief in Protestantism; founded in scripture. To go beyond that, meaning, to add to the fundamentals of the faith makes you a Hyper-separationist. These are the kinds of people who are often legalistic, and divides the church (1 Corinthians 1:10-17), as they stress on any doctrine they feel important and make that as a test of true faith.

Be careful that you do not fall into this.

I'm a Calvinist and you're an Arminianist; but we believe in the same Gospel that saves; that makes us Brothers and Sisters. There is no true church, for the church is the spiritual body of Christ.

Um.. I'm not with any church or group. I am on the side if my King Jesus
2 ups, 5y
Hmm... well, I must say you're mistaken, but that later. A more important question I want to ask is this: what is the Gospel to you?

Tell it to me as if you're sharing it with an unbeliever.
