The pop. of the four combined comes to 808,034. And the point is, our mayors and leaders, like the rest of us, didn't act like the end of the world was coming - more that we can say about the mayor of NYC, lol

Your complaint - which is valid as I had also seen MSNBC, CNN, and yes, even Fox preempt everything for coverage for it all night - was with MSM, not our dingbat Mayor who was probably sleeping on the campaign trail between insignificant towns that are not NYC.

Correct, that was my intent with the meme (though from what I've heard since the mayor rather let the media freak him out). It seems me that the media, in the rush to sensationalize, actually does a disservice to urbanites. This latest incident was a good example - whether it was their intention or just the consequence of sensationism, they portrayed New Yorkers as too inept to handle a mere 3 hours without electricity. That isn't right.

I was rather surprised at the coverage, something like maybe 40,000 people affected? Screwed me out of a Rachel Maddow repeat. Checked a couple of times over the hours and they were still babbling about the outage.

Perhaps they were banking on a cascade effect speading to other places so wanted to get there from the get go. But it was isolated and no biggie. Broadway shows and a Jennifer Lopez concert cancelled. Big whoop. Broadway is ridiculously expensive and I have no idea why J Lo still has a career. Her movies all bomb yet they keep hiring her.

The worst thing about it was the tourists whose shows got cancelled. Not all would be able to simply reschedule.

And DeBlasio seriously needs to shut up and go away. Like, forever.

You take what I say waaaaaaaaay too seriously. You should know better than this by now.
I reflect what people say. Look behind the mirror, do I even exist at all?

"Aw :) I appreciate it.
No, I haven't heard of City Island.
I have been to big cities -NY being one. I love my rural life but I don't hate urbanites. As my mother would often say, it takes all kinds, and it really does."

City Island is a 1.8 mile x .25 mile island on the northeast edge of the Bronx. Next to it is Orchard Beach, then New Rochelle (part of Westchester County).
It's been described as Nantucket like. The main street is full of restaraunts and antique stores. It's beautiful. Only problem is the traffic in the summer getting on the bridge. The opened a new one like 2 years ago, but I haven't been there since before. There's tons of boats, and building them and yachts plus fishing used to be the big industries there.

I once read that half the pop was Yankees - as in from way back when REAL colonial Yankees - and the other mostly Italian and whatever else.
It's its own little world, and like a small town, everybody knows your business.

The movie Summer of Sam takes place there. If you want to see what life for me was like back in that era, it's in that movie. That was my Bronx experience growing up.

Sounds quaint and pretty there :)
I will have to find that movie and watch it, thank-you!

You don't really think I'm that arrogant and look down on other States and small towns, like for real real? It's just exagerrated banter - people on this site act like NYC is overrated, so I do likewise. Sure, it's childish, but it's also nonsense. I love those places, always have.

I'm too old to adapt to a new place, but when I was younger, I wished I could have lived in a small town.

I don't even know how anyone can live in Manhattan, too boxed in, too rushed. Nice to visit and do things, but a day is not a life.
My preference now is neighborhoods that are a mix, part urban, but at least near parks and small enough where people know their neighbor. I like the Bronx, so I seek that round here.

Ever hear of City Island over? If I had the money, I'd move there. Small town on the edge of the Bronx, part of yet separate. Best of both worlds.

I'm a cranky-ish mofo, but I'm not really that hateful as I portray myself.
