A feature like that would be nice

I've been pushing for this for a couple of years to no avail.

Yes. And being so, to not dilute away all the awesome memes from each user I thought, a page specified each featuring their top 10(or so) best m3m3s.

Do you think we should do a top 250 memes just like the top users or top 100 memes?

Ehh... not sure really. Maybe just a top 100 of all time? I don't know really. It's hard to decide how I would do something like that if I had the power to do so.

Actually I've been working on a list of top 100 memes/ 350+ upvotes until last year
spursfanfromaround initially lounched an effort for such a project.
But you can't browse the whole imgflip manually - it's way to many.

spurs made a seperate stream (the 300+ upvote stream) hoping people would report all the top memes they made and knew - but obviosly this is very incomplete approach. Not every top user contributed or even knew about it and many a have left or deleted.

I made a personal effort by configuring an advanced Google search that yielded excelent results.
My months of efforts on researching what I called "the imgflip hall of fame" were almost completed (75%-80%) and I was about to post them soon after.

But then within only a few weeks couple of things happened:

* I was ill
* streams were separated
* begging-for-upvotes memes were mushrooming - aquiring twice as many upvotes as the highest ranking memes for years in a single month
* new users started to browse the old submissions of top rated memers that were no longer active and reposted their top-ranked stuff.
*last but not least the # of accounts and for that matter the upvote-power has considerably grown within a year, so 400+ upvotes is no longer a thing. If it was maybe two 400+upvotes memes per year until late 2017 you now have the same number of top-memes within a month.

Admittedly this put me all off my project.and I then let it go at that.
Being state of the art in Q3-2018 my year-old reseach is grossly outdated by now.

Impressive! It would be nice to get some really accurate list. I don't really consider memes asking to get a certain amount of up votes to be genuine. I know I don't think I have ever topped 300 on any one of mine.

However, does that stream you mentioned still exist? I would love to check it out.

As Arc mentioned, about a year or so ago I tried starting a stream where the top upvoted memes would be seen but it never took off and it was very difficult to gather every single meme. And this stream was made before all the personal streams got started so it wasn't done very well.

I've been asking for this feature for over two years now and nothing. I've been wanting a feature that shows the top 5 (just an example) for every major template.

Matching memes that have been made years ago with recent memes just by # of upvotes doesn't work out well.
As the number of comunity members increases every year so does the upvote-power in total and 300+ memes are no longer a thing.
Which means the mere upvote count alone does not qualify as a famous meme ranking criteria over a longer time period.

Imho You have to divide the upvote count of a meme by the total upvote volume/traffic in that given year on whole imgflip.

e.g. a 2015-dated meme with 500 upvotes and a total of 500,000 upvotes on imgflip in that year should outrank an 800-upvotes-meme created in 2018 given 1,000,000 upvotes in total in 2018 because there were twice as many upvotes floating around in total in 2018 but the 2018-meme didn't aquire twice as many upvotes.

Plus the stream separation has an effect as well. Up to 2018 you might have a decent frontpage terminator with a 300+ upvote political meme. Thats no longer a possibility. Epic politics memes after 2018 would completely fall through the cracks of an imgflip famous meme ranking.

My goal was to just rank the memes with the most uovotes. That's what I was attempting.

And you're right about the political memes not getting many uovotes anymore. Since they separated the streams, I've only seen one 100 uovotes political meme. Generally, they'll only get 40-75 uovotes.

When the next election comes in 2020, political memes will become popular again
