I encourage all leftists to take one illegal alien family and you can both move to these "countries smart enough to welcome you" anyone who became a citizen by proper lawful means, is welcome to your place here in the good old US of A!

Oh no they are not welcome! That's a lie. Legal or illegal they're still targeted. Have you even been out of the United States? Have you ever even been out of your state? How many "illegals" have you met? I've known hundreds. Trumpublicans tend to repeat rhetoric because they want to think racist biggoted gossip is true. Trump isn't going after Illegals. He's going after the children of people legally seeking asylum. I've taken asylum seekers and refugees into my home before Blarfnotz. Have you?

Why do Trumpublicans always say, "If you don't like the country you were born, raised and spent a lifetime working in you can leave."? It's been MY country for over half a century and my vote counts as much as yours does. You are a registered voter, are you not? Because if you're not you are more than welcome to move to another country. Trumpublicans would probably love Russia. You should check into that.

26 years USAF/CSAR. 6 Tours OEF/3 Afghanistan 3 Iraq. 1 Djibouti. 1 Bosnia/Herzegovina. 1 Spain. 1 Shemya. Registered Republican and current in Tucson. Best friend and neighbor is CBP sector communications chief. Our unit has pulled 26 illegals and 4 CBP agents on CIVSAR missions in the mountains on the border btwn Douglas and Yuma. Some alive. Some dead. Go try your lecture elsewhere. Right now it's the adults who are speaking.

Thank you for your service. I tried to enlist just like my father, grandfather, cousins and eventually my son but the men in the recruitment offices just laughed at me. I know troops in Yuma. Ever heard of E. Lake?
He's the smartest young man you'll ever meet. I've been to the border in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. My favorite drive in the states is route 66. Always has been. You think just because you wear a uniform no one else has ever seen dead children in the desert? Grow up. I was watching illegals get shot for trying to cross the Rio Grande before you were born.

Except that refugees legally seeking asylum are being held in detention centers.

Where should they be held until they have been properly vetted?

Have you been vetted? Granted some of the people crossing, statistically, are criminals by our standards but the mass majority are just families trying to survive. Tell me what's the point of kidnapping their children while they're being vetted?

All fine and good, but still didn’t answer the question. What do you suggest we do until it has been decided if they can stay or not?
0 ups, 6y
I'm not the least bit qualified to answer that question. But if forced to give an unqualified response ... I think they should be cleared before they come in. After the initial clearance they should be given work visas until they can become legal citizens through the courts. I'd hire hundreds more border patrol to get through this nightmare in a timely manner so no one is needs to spend months locked in cages unable to support themselves.

I'd leave children with their families and allow those with family/friends already in the states to live with them until they find jobs and support themselves.

People come to this country for the same reasons we stay. Let them. There's only 324,000,000 Americans. We could use the extra taxes and the extra population.

Let me know if you're in Scotland. They're generally rather sensible here.

Please tell us you will never move back Mik

Move back where? You know you don't have to live somewhere to see it, right? I've never lived in New Mexico or Arizona but I've been through them my entire life.

I wouldn't quite go that far. It's true that there's a self interest to any power structure of any kind, anywhere. But some places are better places to live not because the politicians are better people, necessarily, but because their interests happen to align more closely with ours. And that's just as true in Scotland as it was when I lived in Chicago.

Anyway, you're welcome to visit anytime.

I'm five hours south of Chicago. Everyone down here thinks Chicago is ruining the state. I'm very thankful for Chicago. They're all republicans down here in southern Illinois. Most voted for Trump but none are still defending him and won't vote for him again. Thank the universe.

Farther south. I'm south Central Illinois...near Effingham and My. Vernon. Two hours east of St. Louis. It's beautiful but it's rural.

I must confess, that's a part of Illinois I usually just drive straight past.

Before I moved here I had never thought twice about Illinois. Having spent most of my adult life in San Diego I can tell you everyone that knows me knows I'd rather be in Cali.
