corporations are multi-national,and even though they speak in the language of nationalism, they hold no allegiances.
but it goes even further than that, and far more simplistic.
supply lines are inter-connected and international.
that pandoras box was opened in the 80's under Reagan,no way you are stuffing all that back into a pre-80's protectionist trade policy.
not going to happen.
also,60% of Chinese products are manufactured by American companies.
and many actual American companies purchase raw materials for their products from china, and we have seen a devastating ripple effect.
so simply stating "yes,it will be rough" is an under-statement.
this alludes to a post world war 2 era "we can do it if we just pull ourselves up by our boots-straps" jingoism that literally ignores the reality.
and the reality is that business is global, and putting pressure on one aspect can have devastating effects on another..possibly catastrophic.
think of a giant jenga game, with all the nations inter-connected.
pull the wrong block and the whole thing comes crumbling down, and that would lay waste to the working class in multiple countries, including our own.
another development that has me very concerned,is the trumps administrations constant poking at both china and Russia.
now we can agree/disagree the validity or rationale of said tarrif policies, but we cannot ignore the response.
and china is responding.
and they are also forming much stronger trade policies with Russia,a direct response to American trade policy.
they are going as far as to work around America as the worlds reserve currency.
and THAT is the real trouble.
if America loses it's standing as the worlds reserve currency,we are done as a global super-power.
see:britain 1952 and their ill-thought suez canal debacle.
this is just a dangerous path to travel, and the possible consequences are catastrophic.
hey..maybe trump has something up his sleeve,it has only been a month.we shall see.
but the rhetoric is so powerful.
appealing to our lizard brains and our inherent "American exceptionalism" jingoistic nonsense.it short circuits reason and critical examination.
rhetoric is a tool,not reality.
