Which part of "outlaw" is unclear on that?

A lot of people for whom "ends justify means" seem to believe "Rob from the Rich & give to The Poor" absolves the perpetrator. (The "outlaw" part is clear to me.)
Thanks!

I mean, the context has been largely washed out by Hollywood these days but he was part of a resistance to systemic ethnic injustice in his society.

You don't have to absolve him, but there's very much a defense for him and he is celebrated as a positive hero in English lore.

I get all that. I grew up with Errol Flynn's heroic Robin Hood, mostly on TV but screened in my home town's gym twice. (Sitting close to the screen, Olivia de Haviland was twice as beautiful when she was twice life size...). And then TV was rerunning the British series from the 50's. I've seen more 'Robin Hoods' than I've seen 'King Kongs' and that is a tall mountain. The Russel Crowe version tied RH to the Magna Carta and is my favorite version so far.
My issue is with the reflexive acceptance of "ends justify means." Because while heroic rebels answer the call of 'freedom' tyrants resort to repression and they both have the same anthem (EJM).
Thanks for your comments.

You liked the Russel Crowe version? I thought it was awful.

Anyway, the original stories give a substantial amount of time describing Locksley's elaborate judicial system to ensure a fair evaluation of whether or not a traveler deserved to be told to make a mandatory donation to the forest preservation fund. The storytellers were (once) aware that they had some work to do justifying the methods of the Merry Men in a way that would be agreed upon as fair and square regardless as to the audience's politics; it is there in the old stories, they just didn't get translated to any of the screen adaptations.

And they are less likely to appear in the (inevitable) retellings as the price of movie tickets edge past the value of an hour's work, yes?
The Crowe version was dark and gritty, and in places a real stretch of the old 'credibility muscles,' but I was especially taken by the romance growing between Cate Blanchette and Crowe. It was fun and I bought my own copy (when the price hit $2.50).

Nothing justifies theft. "Justification" is the slippery slope...

Ah...Thank you. So, free markets to the max, let commerce rule unimpeded except by market forces? Anarchists have been around for a long time so I guess I can roll from here. Just one last question: Who has influenced your ancap thinking the most?

Thanks again. ;^)

the ancap ideology itself is not influenced by a single person. Its more or less an amalgamation of ideas from dozens of people over the centuries.

for example;

-Murray Rothbard
-Ayan Rand
-Lysander Spooner
-Ludwig von Mises
-Adam Smith
-Larken Rose
-John Locke

Thank you.
I am familiar with four of those seven name. Now I can explore some more.
Thanks again.
