It's not really out of fear.

The tasks of administration are so mundane and so innocuous most of the time that I elect someone just so that I don't have to bother with every shitty detail. I've got my own job to get on with; don't bother me about a proposal to pilot study a new daycare funding program - just do it, we'll send someone over to check you're not embezzling the money but use your administrative discretion to just get it done.

That's the problem that all of this is needed for to begin with. Some things we can't all stick our noses into and discuss all at once - we have to delegate them to statesmen.

Yeah, no, not at all. That's why we call it an administration - there's a huge list of things that government has to do just to keep everything organized. Most of it has nothing to do with ideology whatsoever; there's nothing socialist or capitalist about archiving receipts, for example.
