My mother has literally stopped in the middle of the road and talked to another lady, while cars were coming her direction! I told her that cars were coming, and she only walked slowly to the other side of the road, talking carelessly in the process.

As an Italian, this! This is me after spending two hours at a party/reception and after my Mom finally saying "we should go", then waiting an additional half-hour for her to stop at every table on the way out to "say goodbye" to all our relatives.
