Big Money is the Wolf behind the Mask

Except big money can lie to people to get what they want in either system.

It’s a lot easier to manipulate congress and the president than it is a whole nation of people.

Except people get manipulated to get congress and the president elected as is.

This is true except people have often false hopes in such individuals who instead sell out to their funders. The people might vote very differently to the “reps” that are selected for office.

False hopes led Venezuela's people to vote themselves into a third world hellhole. In essence they voted out what they though where the wolves due to propaganda and then got eaten by the real wolves they gave power.

And direct democracy doesn't have representatives. Instead the people vote on all those things the reps due themselves. So do you really believe the populous will have the time or the inclination to read though and understand each and every bill to be informed enough to vote on them?
