Until you have to react to a shoot, don't shoot scenario qualified immunity is another thing you can not judge. I was never an officer but I am a combat vet, I did what I had to do and still ended up having to decide on taking a man out that looked like a threat. I decided not to take it and let him go, police officers do that many, many, many times. Police involved shooting are so rare that the average officer never fires a weapon at a suspect, never. When they do, it is investigated, every detail, every angle. Immunity protects them if it turns out that most would have taken the same shot. If not, they can and do go to prison. There is no nation wide group of racist cops waiting to ambush anyone, there never has been, that ignorant belief only spreads hate on one of the few groups willing to risk everything to help strangers that would never even try to help them. They are among our nations best.
