Normally a person will take a minute to hold their breath but will suffocate and stay alive around 3 minutes and will be considered dead once suffocation has reached another minute after all the organs slow down rapidly. The brain will be the first to slow down as many will see black but still feel pain from suffocation it later reaches closer to the heart.
Think of it as radar but it's going towards the center not away
and after most of the organs slowed down in 3 minutes the last minute reaches the heart that causes every nerve to repulse and twitch until the heart takes the slowest heartbeat of 20 seconds a beat at least 3 times until utter silence and some parts of the body will be bloated (only in water). If this was in space the same thing will happen is just that your body will look as pale as natural white color.
