How so? It gives the smaller states more representation in voting. The only people saying that it isn’t fair are the Democrats, and that’s only because it screwed over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. There is no solid evidence saying that the electoral college isn’t fair.

Having just the popular vote would cause imbalance, as the states that are smaller in size like Rhode Island, Delaware, etc. would have barely any impact compared to the bigger ones because they have less population. They would be barely represented in the vote, and that is the whole reason the electoral college was put into effect, to balance the vote and give equal representation.

More of a say is better than less of a say

There are 538 electors in the college and a minimum of 270 is required to vote a president into office. With a smaller ratio, smaller states get more of a say.
