no no..
you misunderstand.
I totally get why the American people voted trump,i called that in 2016 and did my best to articulate that to my liberal democrat friends.
who promptly blocked, ignored or unfriended me.
I never judge someone for who they voted for.they had their reasons, and what you just stated was a really large part of the dynamic.
look, americans as a whole are a pretty positive bunch,to the chagrin of basically the entire rest of the developed world.
but patterns of political unrest span decades.
so we can go back to 2008 and the Obama campaign.
"hope and change"
well, after the exhausting bush years, americans were desperate for a new direction,a new path and some collective will to make things in America match their ideology of America.
well they didn't get either "hope" nor "change".
they watched as many of their most cherished ideals about our country were getting flushed down the toilet.
rule of law? toast
illegal wars of aggression? expanded
* I am not going to list them all,you lived it,so you know.
so when trump came along, with his weird brew of right/left populist rhetoric.
people thought "well, what do we have to lose"?
Hillary was an already known factor.
so,they rolled the dice on trump.
I get it,and I understand.
the "lesser of two evils" argument had been used one too many times.so the American people gave a massive middle finger to the elites.
and good on them I say!
however,it has been two years, and the verdict is in,and there should be no reason to exercise a blind obedience for a political figure.
while trump has not been a total disaster,he has done far more damage to our republic than good.
i see too many people focusing on his rhetoric and not his policies.
i see too many people deluded that he is somehow "draining the swamp" (which he is,just not the one americans assumed).
i see some who are convinced trump was chosen by god.
i see many who ignore trumps disturbing penchant for authoritarianism.
i see those who will defend some of trumps more egregious grabs for power.
i understand those who voted for trump want trump to be a fantastic president, but i cannot respect these people who willfully ignore trumps (and his administration, let's be real here) just because they made a good faith vote.
i saw this exact same mental roadblock in those who voted for Obama.
at some point,we have to put away the toys, the coloring books, and become adults and see trump with clear eyes.
