Oh Jesus, this mess again.

A democracy means any kind of representation of the people by the state.

Since the 1770's we have expanded our democracy from a representation of elite white male landowners to a full democracy of all races and genders. This was in no small part done by amending our constitution.

So we have been a democracy since always and in full since the early 1960's and if you don't like it you can eat tough wafers.
