Well I guess the best example would be if you want to build muscles, going to the gym, if you don’t put yourself through the pain/effort/time etc. You won’t gain what you want.

I think you're right. Athletes will put in hours of daily training to compete in races and competitons. Makes me wonder why we can't apply it to virtue as well. Becoming a person of good character through daily spiritual exercise.
