UK banned guns in 1997. Total homicides have now returned to the same level, replaced by knife and truck killings, predominantly by you know who.

Law abiding citizens once had the privilege of owning guns and criminals feared getting shot. Now that the law abiding citizens have no guns, the criminals fear nothing. The next step is for the criminals to import guns and law abiding citizens are done for.

It does, however it looks your question was intended to be rhetorical, in that you believe no one "needs" guns. Human nature dictates that whoever has the biggest stick, gets to push everyone else around. People with guns are harder to push around than people without guns.
