most people do not know that American news media in the form of news used to be a net-zero institution.
meaning that news rooms didn't focus on profit.
so news was seen as a badge of honor and professionalism.
so we had walter Cronkite,dan rather,i.f stone. etc etc.
by the late 70's,broadcast news went to a for-profit model.
which changed the entire landscape of news,and we can look at that period of time as the birthing of the media we experience today.which is less about news but more about cult of personality,spectacle and manipulation.
when trump accused the media of being "fake news" he wasn't exactly wrong,but of course "fake news" was anything critical of him and his policies.which is pretty narcissistic.
this is why we need each other to decipher and disseminate the ocean of bullshit we are subjected to every day.
our politics comes after....but to do that we need solid,reliable information to even begin to engage politically.
