Dollar a week allowance, so all I bought was Archives with the 1st 3 LPs. Taped 2112 off of someone.
HAHA, that's funny.
Rock crested by 82, then everyone ran out of ideas and made New Wavy Disco songs, the asswipes.
Then music started to matter again inthe early 90s, but after a couple of years they started siging Nirvana and Pearl Jam soundalikes. At that point, the labels were run by business grads out to make a buck, whereas as till the 80s actual music lovers were at the helm. So the latter day dolts went for what was calculated to sell, rather than signing talent and letting them grow if they didn't become hits right away.
There's still good stuff, just doesn't get attention. Looking up LPs on eBay, I look up interesting looking bands on YouTube, and some are pretty good. Some gritty Punky stuff, Dark Country, Neo Psychedelia (although that can sound slightly less organic than the way back when stuff), new Prog.
I'm the worst with naming stuff off the top of my head, but check out Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats (Vol 1 was my intro and fave) for some Stoner Hard Rock. That there is some later 70s level gold. They is bonafide.
