THAT HAPPENED! No ... it really did!
Got caught doing 130 on a highway, tried to outrun 4 different cops, but you can’t outrun a radio and a roadblock ... I was a 19 year old punk.
They threw the book at me, attempted evasion, reckless endangerment of life, reckless endangerment of property, reckless driving.
My parents (this was 1983) drove by the arrest scene and followed the cop to the jail. My dad said, “I’m not bailing you out! You got yourself into this mess, you’ll have to get yourself out!”
All the bail bondsmen were at the local high school football game. One of them happened to come by and the booking officer pointed him out to me. I called him over and asked if he could bail me out. He asked “what’s the charge?” When he heard all the charges he just whistled when he heard bail was $5000 and said “I’ll get you out for $150.” I had just been paid for two weeks of work and had over $500 in my wallet. LOL!
As it turned out, the arresting officer failed to Mirandize me. I got off by pleading guilty to a speeding ticket.
I ended up paying a $47 speeding ticket. My parents were pissed.
