Although republicans did free the slaves, it’s not a valid argument because the yanks also established Jim Crow Laws, and people would’ve been less racist if the free market handled the problem by allowing technology to automatically (pun intended) replace slaves. There weren’t even that many slave owners, yet, after the civil war. And lastly, most of the demand for cotton came from the north!

Laws don’t make people racist. Laws reinforced the racism that was already there. That’s why, as society changed and continues to change, laws change and continue to change and reinforce our thought patterns ... assuming a free society that is allowed to make its own laws.

But technology would result in people no longer needing to establish such laws, and blacks would become accepted as equal in society more quickly.

no. technology does not just change things. an Alabama paper just ran a 'the kkk should ride again' editorial. 100 years ago was not that long, some folks still alive today. 50 years ago really not long at all, many still alive today. and those racists that are in their 80s raised little racists and so on and so forth. the laws are necessary and NO the YANKS did not establish the Jim Crow laws. jfc, do you go to school in Alabama?

Republicans freed the slaves, ended segregation (that was Dwight Eisenhower), and did NOT enact Jim Crow laws => Jim Crow laws were state and local laws that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. All were enacted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Democratic-dominated state legislatures after the Reconstruction period. The laws were enforced until 1965

Parties weren’t as important by the early 20th century because most issues, like WWI, were bipartisan.

And that’s when the political parties began to switch.

They're the ones telling everyone that republicans are racist, homophobic, xenophobic et al. In all my life I have not known 1 person, not 1, who I would call a racist. That includes all different types of people, races, religions, creeds. The truth is racism is a fringe thing at best. I do believe there are some people that are truly racist, but I've never met them personally. They are edge cases, one offs. NOT the norm.
