Doesn’t this happen all too often

Happens a lot.

I say that because if I don't make like page 2 or 3 within a few hours it goes nowhere. Yet I see some suddenly pop up on the front page after sitting in obscurity for 5 days.
Or I'll be in the top spot on page 2 when I go to bed and I wake up with 5 on the front page that were newly posted and mine way back on page 5 or lower. I'm getting beaten out often times by posts that are 100% reposts, many of them are reposts of things that are currently on the top pages.
I'm not usually one to bitch about petty stuff like that, but it's starting to get a little frustrating.

I am baffled by this too. I have been in varying parts of this spectrum. I will be stuck on say, page 3. Then BOOM. Top of the front page. Or I will be rapidly heading toward the front page and BAM! It just drops back into a black hole. I recall a time when it was so much less sporadic. I think when the streams were created it really affected this. Partly because now we have less memes in the main stream, and also a lot of kids seem to be active here now. If they were active before I did not notice. But there does seem to be a spike in high schoolers. Their up voting or downvoting habits are likely in play here too.

It's probably been at least three weeks since I've been on the front page. Lately, I'm lucky if I get 1000 views or more.

I dead serious was surprised and shocked to see some of the recent crap I made hit the front page. Who the hell up votes "I broke my cell phone" to the front page? Maybe it was just relatable or something? Because I didn't expect that to see the light of day. My best stuff never makes it up there though. It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma. You have some great stuff. Or maybe that's the problem? The better it is the harder it is to get it out there?

The phone thing is totally relatable, I think that's why....I guess a lot of my jokes do take a little thought sometimes to get.

In "real" life, my humor is not often understood or appreciated. I do okay in here though, mostly in comments. Every now and then there is someone who doesn't understand that we are all just playing along with the meme.

It is a little off putting when somebody comes in and makes a serious comment in a stream full of jokes

I was just thinking how puns tend to set some people off. I mean, one guy got really angry in here one day. It's been quite a while back, but he was seriously pissed. I was wondering why he didn't just leave the thread.

I just submitted a lame and boring and stupid potato meme. Let's see how far it gets. LOL

i made one and now Boma made one, both made the front page! It's sad really...a freaking potato wins over original funny content. So many good memes lost to the void...

I used that kitten on a potato template in comments a few times in the past. I think it's cute.

Don't try to put boundaries what is funny or original, because that is how you box yourself in and lose out on all kinds of great ideas. Dare I say meming is kind of an art for those who really do use it as a hobby. Something seemingly simple ( as a kitten on a potato) could very well spark some other cool idea. Also, things get to the front page because a lot of people gave it an up vote. If enough people like it enough to vote it up to the front page then it can't be as sad as you think right?

yep i'm with you! I try to be original in all my stuff, it's hard sometimes and some days i just don't submit anything because if it's not worth submitting then i don't bother with it. I was just saying that on the one day that i said screw it, i'm not going to be creative, here's a potato, that was more successful than a lot of other creative things i've done. You're absolutely right about things being funny, humor is like a part of your personality, some people get it, some don't.

I'm just not very good at specific puns, I can make one or two, but it's difficult for me to keep it going

It's funny how they just stick in my memory.
This about the only place we have left in the world where we can make politically incorrect jokes and not get lynched for it.
