To this day, she says childbirth was easy in comparison ... and we have three kids.

Both natural births. I think it isn't so much the pain level but rather how long it lasts. My first baby was a 16 1/2 hour labor with maybe 2-3 minutes of pushing, the second was only around 6 hours of labor with about the same amount of pushing. Though the second one was spinning on the way out which made delivery a little harder. But I have had worse pain.

You must have a high pain threshold!
My wife's labor was 12 hours with the first, 8 with the second, 4 with the third. It kept getting shorter by 4 hours. I told her that if we had another kid, he/she would be born in the car. None were natural though. Kudos to you!

Her gallbladder attack lasted about 2 weeks before we realized what was going on. She says that was worse than anything she could even imagine.

I think the fact that medicines scare me worse than pain is a factor. LOL. I may have shouted some profanity from the rooftops during that time. Also,m the pain isn't constant, it only hits during contractions. Once the pushing phase starts the pain is a lot less, until the baby emerges.
I have heard that gallbladder and kidney stones are some of the worst pain you can have aside from say, breaking a hip. At least during labor you know the cause and that there are ways to relieve the pain.

And at the end of childbirth, you have that little one to hold!

I'm getting more and more scared of medicines myself. The side effects of all these pharmaceuticals gets crazier and crazier and their commercials spend more than half their allotted time talking about the side effects.

That is TRUE! And the possible side effects are always awful thing slike, explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting, bleeding, and cancer. Even my kids have noticed that about medications.

I'm sorry your wife went through gallstones. That must have been excruciatingly painful!

a weird would you rather question

Well, with my last child I was in labor for 2 1/2 months (he was what the O.B. described as a "super growth" baby). If anyone wants to suggest a kick in the testicles can even come close to causing pain for that length of time, I am sorry, but I'm dubious.

It isn't just the length of time, it's also the level of pain.

I wonder what unit they use to measure pain... "pain-ometers?"

Labor is pretty freakin' painful. I was in a severe car crash once and none of the pain of that or the subsequent recovery even compared, lol. The only worse pain I've ever had was one migraine brought on by high blood pressure (actually thought about clawing my eyes out with that one!)

I'm not disputing the pain of labor and giving birth, but being hit in the testicles is extreme pain. They've even tested it on a pain scale and it was registered as far greater pain than childbirth, but doesn't last as long.

I'm sorry how you got in the car crash. My worst injury was when a thing of wood impaled my skull when I was a toddler. Labor is painful, but we all need to thank all the women who helped us get here.

I once pulled my groin and kept working a physically demanding job (though part time). It felt like getting kicked in the crotch repeatedly. X(
