Hi Cheez, when you have opportunity could you please send me a link to where you've copied and pasted to me, Frush91_nova's beliefs regarding Jesus and the Trinity?

Thank you.

I can see there was a bit of a misunderstanding between the two of you. How it began, I wasn't able to find, but with that said: both you and Frush91_nova can benefit from reading the Athanathian Creed.

Yeah, I'm not an expert on the Bible, so I might still misunderstand stuff
Thanks for sending the Creed

You're very welcome. With that, I suggest you buy a book that teaches you the fundamentals of Christianity.

Creeds are the basic declarations fundamental or elementary to the Christian faith such as the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed, as well as the Athanasian Creed (I've spelled that wrong). And then there are what's called, Confessions, which lays out in greater detail, all the fundamentals of the faith. Finally, there are Catachisms which does the same but are in a form of questions and answers.

Unfortunately I know of only few; all of which are Calvinist confessions and catachisms such as the Westminster Confession of Faith, Belgic Confessions, Heidelberg Catachism, and the Cannons of Dort. I don't know or forgive me, remember your beliefs, but the ones I've mentioned are biblically solid resources up until you read of what made them distinctly Calvinistic (Biblical to me, as I am a Calvinist, so it's up to you).

The best you can buy, if you want to go more deeply is "Systematic Theology" by Wayne Grudem. It's a very large book, but rich in detail. Now he is also a Calvinist but he is also fair and considerate of other persuasions who believed differently than he. It's an extremely large b

If you don't mind me asking, Victor, what's a Calvinist?

HI Cheez, I don't mind.

A Calvinist is one who believes in the doctrines of Calvinism. What Calvinism is, to put it very simplistically, is a belief that God in His sovereignty chooses who to save and who to leave out for salvation.

The theology (study of God) and soteriology (study of salvation) of Calvinism, or the whole or essence of Calvinism is encapsuilated in the acroynim: TULIP

T = Total Depravity (Romans 8:6-8)
U = Universal Election (Romans 2:11)
L = Limited Atonement (Romans 9:14-16)
I = Irresistable Grace (John 6:37)
P = Perseverance of the Saints (John 6:37-39)

Toral Depravity ......
...is that man is basically evil because of his nature. You may have heard of the Sin of Adam, Adamic Sin, or Original Sin. Using the latter term, according to Calvinism man is born with an inclination to sin. It's not just the temptation and a desire to sin. Not only that, he has a mind to sin.

Universal Election ...
... is that God is no respecter of person; he chooses individuals of every kind regardless of ethnicity, gender, or culture.

Limited Atonement ...
... teaches that the full Atonement for sin is for those who are the elect (those who are chosen for salvation); and those who chose to believe (but not all Calvinist believes this)

Irresistable Grace ...
... teaches that whoever is elected, by the grace or undeserved kindness of God, will be be saved against their sinful will.Calvinism is not a popular teaching in the world of Christianity

Perseverence of the Saints ...
... means that those who are saved, will persevere unto the end. You might have heard of Once Saved Always Saved? That is actually an erroneous notion as the Elect are not saved once. In fact, they're continually being saved by Christ and not the Elect. The better name for it is Eternal Security.

Calvinism is not a popular teaching amongst Christians because of the notion of Predestination (Limited Atonement & Irresistable Grace), and Calvinists themselves have at many times wished it weren't scriptural, but we couldn't deny what we see in the Bible.

Believing in Calvinism is not necessary for your salvation, nor is it a doctrine only mature Christians believed in. But if it is true, then the more people believe it, the more glory God gets from it. And, there are practical benefits to believing it as through it you have a greater faith in God as He is in control of everything (Proverbs 16:33).

Hey, Victor

I do think that in the beginning, God knew who was going to join him and who was going to reach salvation.
He knew which people would accept him and which would deny Him.
But, we are not God, so we don't know who will be saved and who wouldn't.
Calvinism does have a point.
But, calling them as the "Elect" sort of makes it sound a little... how do I describe it... special?
I mean, I don't think God chooses them, God accepts all who turns to Him, but He knows who will and who won't, because He knows all. It's their choice if they want to accept God's Grace or not.

Hi Cheez; the notion of the "Elect" does convey or be easily associated with speciality or worse, elite. That was one of the reasons for my initial refusal to accept Calvinism.

But consider this, the Jewish people in scripture was also called the Elect. They were chosen above all other peoples to be His own inheritence. However, He did not choose them for anything that they can boast about.

For a people to be considered great, they must have an above average sophistication and refinement in terms of culture, in martial prowess, numbers, history, longevity, etc. We can think of the Chinese whose histories, philosophies, the arts, inventions and longevity are the envy of Asia. We think of the British Empire who became the world's first world superpower; who spread Constitutional Democracy all over the world, and the first nation to industrialize. Finally, we think of Babylon who's leader and nation was the richest in the world; whom Daniel called King Nebuchadnessar and his kingdom, the Head of Gold.

However, the Jews were the exact opposite. In Deuteronomy 7 it says :

7 The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

So why did God chose such a people who have had very little history and strength in comparison to their neighbors?

8 But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

The choosing of the Hebrew/Jewish people was based nothing more on His decision to love them.
