I think you missed my point. If, say, a taxi home cost $20 and the meal cost $25, (which is more than the taxi cost), you'd still come out ahead by getting the ride home with the delivery driver for $25 /including/ the meal, rather than $45 for the taxi /plus/ the meal.

The whole point was he couldn’t afford the taxi, the food must be more affordable (less expensive total) otherwise the meme would be irrelevant. Your response was logical, but too in depth. The guy may not even eat Chinese food and threw it away when he got home.
