I work in hotel AV, actually, so I know a lot about egress and a bunch of other fire code type stuff. I'm also a home owner and I did also recently upgrade my breaker panel, so I know a little about a lot of different things.

i'm an electrical engineer (hence "thparky", lol), we design a good bit of hotels but don't interface with AV too much. you're in california right? I bet your breaker panel upgrade was fun to get the ok from inspectors...

I actually never made the connection with your name amd electrical (seems so obvious now). We actually do a lot of the heavy temporary power, but most of the time if we need to deal with anybody it's generally house electricians

Even here in SC we do work in CA on a regular basis, LA county is the worst but most of the close guys out there are super particular, always a challenge! Residential may not be as bad, but it just seems that everything is super regulated in general.

It is, which is good for safety reasons, but annoying for others. New SDGE regs required me to move my new panel 3ft because the existing one was too close to the gas riser, which meant trenching (lots of fun). So I had a different inspector for that. Then somebody else had to do the mandrelling. And then the building ispector wouldn't sign off on final until after I labeled all of my breakers

Had a guy tell me once that a night light fixture (on 24 /7 for safety) was not considered a normal light fixture and we couldn't tie emergency lights to it because they have to be on the same circuit as the local normal lighting circuit. If normal power is on, the night light is contributing to normal lighting levels, how is that not a normal lighting fixture?? Its just unswitched for safety! Come on!
