Nothing sells because it's "good", but because of how well the marketing strategy worked out. Unfortunately, there are hardly any exceptions. There are countless jewels out there which never sold well at all, and also very serious crap that broke all selling limits (that is also the reason the "Twilight" novels sold so well).
I cannot argue that Nintendo takes more care of their games than many other companies, but if you see how they treat their fans (as a Game Jolt moderator I've been target of the anger of a stunt from Nintendo brought to the users there), I wonder about their true motivations. :-/
Not to mention Nintendo is not the only one, and there are companies who do care about good games (and their fans) who never got as rich as Nintendo, so there's more to Nintendo's success I guess...
Of course, this meme was most of all targeted against real evil-doers. EA games in particular, but not only EA.
