Ummmmmmmmmmm........

The meme and gif are both from a South Park episode - which involved the school counselor, Mr Mackie (Mmmm' kay), and his personal experiences as both a promoter of abstinence - and then his subsequent experience with psychotropics.

Marijuana is a powerful medicine - with many beneficial applications and uses... And that can include getting "high". But like alll medicines - there can be a trade-off or balance between the desired effect - and other (side-)effects.

I was myself the actual creator (and relative to the show - character inspiration) for "Towelie". I say this, not to brag - but because it'z the actual facts, and history of my life.

I met Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park's Creators and Auteurs) at several parties in the Venice Beach area of California - in the early 1990's (very late 1980's?). At the time, I was in my early 20's (or perhaps 19) the first time that I had met them - at 48 - the timeline has become a little blurry, and considering the circumstances of our meetings - at parties - remarkable that I can remember much at all - but we both made impressions upon one another - and had some mutually beneficial interactions - the ripples of which have gone on to spread around the world - in amazing and (at the time) unpredictable ways. I had been experienced with 'the reefer' from a young age (and even some psychedelics - on a MUCH more limited basis, and later age - 16). Perhaps that was too young - I'll let those who tell my story, be the judges of the positives and negatives, of the undeniable facts.

I first tried weed at 12(7th grade). By 14 I was a fairly regular user - and as can be the case, particularly amongst the young folk who start 'using', in some ways I probably overindulged - to the point of consequences.

In the 8th grade(9th?) my best friend at the time (and later the co-creator of the "Towelie", and the phrase "Hey Kids - any body wanna' GET HIGH" (said in the high voice of a cartoonish character like "Towelie") and I got kicked out of "The Windward School" together - for a Quarter - for coming back to Campus (after school) after "smoking-out" in an alley nearby. (Some old lady had called the school - and told them what she saw - and gave them a description). When we got back to campus a few minutes later, we were singing a rather funny song, and laughing... And we might have even "reeked" a little bit, though I believe we'd taken some precautions (visine/breath drops, gum). They split us up immediately (tbc)

(continued) and told us that "They knew" what we'd done. (A bluff probably). We each took "the hit"/blame - for ourselves - and then claimed that the other was totally innocent. So we both got "BUSTED" and expelled.

Anyways there are few things in life that are pure "good" or "bad". There's a lot of gray between black and white.

When I gave Trey and Matt the idea for "Towelie" - I even gave them full license for the use and promotion of said character. We were talking. At the time they'd only done a short film called "The True Meaning of Christmas" - that had received some underground buzz/notoriety/acclaim on the short-film circuit - about the eternal battle between Jesus and Santa. They had also just been released in "BASE-KET BALL" - zany but fairly crappy film. They said that they were doing a "Cartoon for Adults". As a longtime fan of "Underground" comics (R. Crumb, S. Clay Wilson, "the Pizz" etc. - "Zap Comix" And the like) I had a solid idea. Since there was a Cartoon Mascot for just about evetything that the Government and Corporations apporived of, or wanted promoted - "McGruff the CrimeDog", "Smoky the Bear", etc... And since the Govrrnment was still pushing Anti-weed messages - as part of "The War on Drugs"... I suggested that we needed a Cartoon MASCOT for smoking Weed. And to be fair Cocaine, Meth and Heroin/Opiates/Opioids - are all really "bad" drugs - that can kill you, and have destroyed countless people and their lives... Weed, by contrast, was getting and inordinantly and extraordinarily "bad rap" - from the US Government and Corporations... So I wanted a character 'out there' to promote some sanity and liberalization - in the face of a massive (negative/mostly false) propaganda effort and campaign. Hence the idea for "Towelie" was born. And to their credit - they made it quite a success. And the thing about "no towelie we don't want to get high with you" actually happened. They were more into alcohol and perhaps a few psychelics. The show is reality based.

I have long been an advocate for Weed legalization and Compassionate use. In 1995-6 I stood in supermarket parking lots (in Conservative areas of San Diego like La Jolla) to get both Medical MJ and an early effort at legalization called "The HEMP Act" on the ballot in California. MMJ got on but full legalization took another 20 years - and I liked the text of the 1996 HEMP law - a lot more than what passed more recently (too many prohibitive taxes).

To conclude the autobiographical rant... I have been a fairly big advocate for weed and weed legalization for most of my life. And probably a 1%-er as far as it's use and growth. But at the moment - I have some, and stll have felt little need to use any of it - for several months. In the past that only happened in complete "dry"-spells (meaning none around). As for alcohol - I've been a real drinker and a bartender. But I haven't had much relationship with that substance for many years. And when I do drink alcohol at all 1-3 drinks max for the most part.

Cigarettes are just (radioactive) poison. Nicotine seems like a stupid addiction - that has little upside - bit I've never ever tried to "vape" it. But it's poison that kills bees and bugs...

Psychedelics (LSD/Mushroomz) are amixed bag... And while fun can have permanent effects. Not a choice to be made lightly. And when people offer - well I've just said "no" for more than a decade. But I did enjoy them both a bit in my youth. Mushrooms seem to be safer as far as brain injury.

So as you become a full adult you will have choices to make. Think about what you're getting into before you do anything... And THEN - be very careful about setting, dosage and company - etc..

Well... All I can do - is tell you the answer to a tough question - the best way I can. You get to choose whether or not there's any value in it. (If I were to give a reading time on it - As stories to come with on some websites.. I'd say under 5 minutes surely. 2-3?). If U like puzzles - this meme has one.
